What the HEC?

H.E.C. stands for Human External Cargo. It is a term used in the helicopter industry that refers to operations where external cargo, specifically people, are lifted by helicopter utilizing a rope and rigging as a means of work method. Sometimes it is called "short-haul" and it is commonly used in search and rescue and utility operations. The HEC work method has expanded in recent years in the power utility industry to lift lineman to quickly and efficiently work on towers, components and powerlines for construction and maintenance.
